SALT LAKE CITY — One person was stabbed outside of the Matheson Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City on Friday afternoon.
About 1:30 p.m., a vehicle drove up onto the curb of the courthouse and two people entered the lobby, one with a stab wound. The stabbing is believed to have happened in a vehicle at State Street and 500 South, according to Salt Lake police.
Medical crews were called and both people were taken to hospitals, police said.
Because of the incident, court was delayed for a few hours and the east side of the courthouse was locked down and blocked off.
Salt Lake police said the incident poses no danger to the community and the details of what happened were still under investigation. Detectives told KSL they believe this may have been a mental health crisis and the stab wound may have been self-inflicted.
