NEW ZEALAND — Most of us have had the experience of finding an animal in need. For example, there are a lot of gopher snakes in my neighborhood and they like to bask in the road. Unsurprisingly, the snakes get run over by cars from time to time.

So in the summer and fall, I'll often spot a snake in peril and jump out of my car to move it safely from the road. My wife isn't a huge fan of me stopping in the middle of the road to cradle snakes in my arms. But she supports it because, even though she might not love snakes, she doesn't want to see them suffer.

I actually thought of my wife when I saw this video:

The rescuer here certainly isn't an avid eel enthusiast. She's just someone who wants to help. And I respect that.

The woman says, "I wanted to help get it back in the stream but was grossed out by the thought of touching it and feeling how slimy it is. What unfolded was a comedic series of events of trying to rescue the animal but freaking out in the process!"

Yeah, that's a perfect description of the incident. And I salute this good-natured person for putting the ick factor aside to help a friend in need.
