HONOLULU — The ocean is a mysterious place. You might think we know a lot about it because of Jacque Cousteau and "Shark Week," but about 80% of the ocean remains unexplored and 90% of the species within are yet to be classified.

Are there megalodons cruising around in the darkest depths of the Pacific? Nope. But there's no question that there are unknown species down there so large and scary they would haunt your dreams.

All this is to say that if you're lounging on the beach somewhere, be prepared for anything. The ocean is too vast and too mysterious for us to ever assume that a marlin won't just come rocketing out of the water.

"While relaxing on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii, I noticed a crowd looking into the water," says the video's caption. "Just as I was trying to figure out why a large blue marlin beached itself on the shore."

I have a soft spot for wildlife, so it makes me sad to see this majestic fish in peril. But I love how many of the beachgoers jumped into action and tried to save it.

Ultimately, the fish was successfully maneuvered back into the water. I hope that it goes on to live a long and happy life full of mackerel lunches and squid dinners.
