HEBER CITY — A 20-year-old Vernal woman was identified Thursday as the person who was killed in a crash on U.S. 40 near Strawberry Reservoir on Tuesday morning. Another person was in serious condition following the accident, state troopers said.

The crash occurred just north of the reservoir, about 19 miles south of Heber City, when a westbound Toyota Camry crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided with a GMC Yukon head-on about 10:50 a.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden.

The driver of the Camry, identified Thursday as Lauren E. Reynolds, 20, was fatally injured, Roden said, and the driver of the Yukon was hospitalized in serious condition. Five passengers in the Yukon — including four children — were taken to the hospital for observation with minor injuries.

Roden said as of Thursday, all of the individuals who were in the Yukon are in stable condition and there is nothing life-threatening, but a few of them will have some ongoing care and treatment for injuries.

Troopers said Reynolds is from Vernal.

The road was closed in both directions due to the crash and was reopened as of 2:30 p.m., but the roads are wet and conditions are expected to worsen.

Roden said weather may have played a role in the crash, but it is still being investigated. Northeastern Utah is under a winter weather advisory, with snow expected at higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service.
