SWEDEN — My memories of ice fishing as a kid are mainly centered around slush, frozen lines and more slush. I realize there are people out there who love to get out on the ice and catch buckets of fish. They have all the right gear and truly become one with the ice.
But that wasn't my family. We just shivered out there on the ice for hours on end, hoping to reel in at least one fish to justify the whole experience.
After watching this video, however, it seems like we might've been doing it wrong. Rather than standing in one place, beholden to the holes we've drilled, we should have been trolling.
But wait, you might be thinking, you can't troll from ice! Not here in America. But it looks like some people in Europe have found a way to take ice fishing to a whole new level.
I was really hoping that this video was real. The guy looks so calm and confident out there, as though he's been fishing like this for years. But it turned out to be a one-time stunt.
"I and my brother were out fishing last spring in northern Sweden when we saw the perfect ice block to make a fun video with, so I jumped on and my brother went away with the boat to start filming," explains the video's caption. "I did not get any fish, but I made it in the boat before it was too late!"
I have to tip my hat to this angler's creativity. He certainly is an innovator.
