SANDY — A 5-year-old boy was taken by helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital after being attacked by a dog on Wednesday.
The boy was riding his bike on the 8600 block of Green Way, near 700 East, just after 1 p.m., according to Sandy Police Sgt. Greg Moffitt, when a Siberian husky charged and attacked him. The boy's mother — who had been supervising him — then kicked the dog several times and took the child back home.
The child had received bites to his face and arms and was flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital, where his condition is stable.
Moffitt said the dog belongs to a resident who lives nearby, who was not home at the time of the attack. Sandy Animal Services has taken custody of the dog, and police don't know if they've been able to make contact with the owner.
