THE HOME — Growing up can be hard. Sometimes siblings make it easier, sometimes they make it worse, and sometimes they do both at the same time.

Whichever way it works out, it's likely that there will be some tension between siblings, probably starting the same day that the second child is born. Here are some classic small child examples:

  • "Mom, he's touching me!" as they're sitting next to each other in the car and can't help touching.
  • "I can hear you breathing — stop it!" as a sibling is breathing normally.
  • "Make her stop doing that!" as a sibling is doing the exact same thing as the complainer.

All those and more may sound familiar to a parent of more than one young child, and it's hard to completely decipher why these issues are issues one minute and why they're not the next minute. If we asked children directly, they may not even be able to identify a reasonable thought process behind the rage.

What is clear is that when you're little and trying to figure out your own human-ness, it's hard to understand the human-ness of others. And the most convenient victim of small child confusion is often their sibling(s).

The best word-based kid fight example on the internet may be this 11-second interaction between a young boy and his toddler sister. In the video, the pair are sitting at their child-sized picnic table eating when the boy exclaims, "Don't look at me like that!"

The camera pans over to little sister as she scrunches back her little chin and widens her eyes in surprise and confusion. With perfect comedic timing, her brother says, "Don't look at me like that either."

It's as adorable as it is hilarious, and it's hilarious because it's true.
