BUCKINGHAM PALACE — Queen Elizabeth II was a beloved icon.

Since her death on Sept. 8, I have learned more about her, likely along with many other people who spend time on the internet. I really want to try making her favorite cake, a tiffin or chocolate biscuit cake.

As an American who spent four months living in the U.K., I have seen some of the royal family's palaces and jewels; but before now, I had mostly seen photos of the queen and not videos.

This compilation of humorous comments from Her Majesty definitely got me laughing — often just from the look on the queen's face.

One thing watching these short videos taught me is that Queen Elizabeth is not too different from most grandmas.

Some of these quips were in front of world leaders; others happened with family or during other royal duties. In a few of these videos, she shows she's not afraid to laugh at herself, or even at the expense of a United States president.

I think my favorite clip is the last one, as the queen is cutting a cake she pulls out a sword to use for the ceremonial cake cutting. Someone else tells her there is a knife there and she responds, "I know there is" but explains she wants to be "more unusual."

Although the sword did not work as well as a knife (this longer clip shows just how ineffective it was), the use of the sword is much more memorable.
