OREM — A no-bail arrest warrant was issued Thursday for a Nebraska man accused of sexually extorting a Utah woman, twice.
Kaden Otto Oie, 21, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was charged Thursday in 4th District Court with aggravated sexual extortion, a second-degree felony, and distributing of an intimate image, a class A misdemeanor.
An Orem woman met Oie on a dating app sometime between the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020. They communicated with each other but never met in person. The woman sent nude pictures and videos of herself to Oie during that time, according to charging documents.
"At some point, (Oie) told (the woman) that he lived in Nebraska," the charges state. "(She) was eventually extorted by (Oie) into sending him nude videos and photos whenever (he) requested it of her. (Oie) threatened to send the nude videos and photos to (her) friends or family if she didn't continue to send the videos and photos."
The requests for videos eventually stopped and the woman deactivated her Snapchat and other social media accounts.
In January 2021, the woman created new Snapchat and Instagram accounts. One day, the woman received a message on Instagram that included a nude picture of herself, the charges state, and realized that it "was likely the same person who had extorted her before," according to court documents.
Oie then demanded more photos from the woman and threatened "to expose her or make an OnlyFans (page) selling her pictures," the charges state.
The woman told Oie that she was contacting the police, but Oie responded that he didn't believe she would go to the police "and to prove he was serious about his threats," he sent an explicit video of the woman to her brother, according to charging documents.
After serving search warrants on the social media accounts, police were able to identify Oie as the person extorting the woman, the charges state.
"(He) relied on the relative anonymity of the internet to extort images from (the woman), even after the initial extortion attempts ended and (she) created new social media accounts, (Oie) persisted in locating those accounts and continued to harass and extort her, ultimately distributing a nude video of (the woman) to her brother," according to charging documents.
