SALT LAKE CITY — Police have located two vehicles they believe are connected to a Salt Lake City homicide that happened on Sunday.
Robert Barros, 40, was shot and killed about 11:44 a.m. in the parking lot of the Taylor Gardens apartment complex, 1790 South West Temple, according to Salt Lake police.
When officers responded to the shooting, they found Barros on the ground with a gunshot wound and began first aid, but Barros died from his injuries, said Brent Weisberg, a spokesman for Salt Lake City Police Department.
Prior to the shooting, Barros had driven to the complex and was followed by another car, according to a news release from Salt Lake police.
"The second car, occupied by at least two people, arrived after Barros parked. At some point, Barros exited his vehicle and was shot," the release says.
Police say the gunman then got into Barros' car, a silver Chevy Impala with Utah license plate number U03VH, and drove off heading south on West Temple.
The car the gunman arrived in was described as a white, two-door Honda "passenger car with dark tinted windows," the release says. Police say that vehicle left the area heading north on West temple.
On Monday, Salt Lake police announced on Twitter that they located the two vehicles believed to be involved in the homicide overnight.
Police say there is no threat to the public and believe Barros and the gunman knew each other. They're asking anyone who may have information on the shooting to call 911 and reference Salt Lake City Police case number 22-100925.
