DRAPER — A bizarre investigation into possible human trafficking of a child resulted in a disturbing find for police who arrested a Draper man accused of trying to arrange to have sex with an infant, possessing child sex abuse material and writing a murder manifesto.

Makai McBride Nordfors, 22, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted human trafficking of a child, 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, obstruction of justice and evidence tampering.

The investigation began Monday when Draper police were contacted by the National Human Trafficking Hotline. The national group said it had received an anonymous tip "that an unknown male from the West Coast would be driving a 2-month-old drugged child" to a Draper address for the purpose of sexually abusing the infant, according to a police booking affidavit.

"Just please make sure that sick twisted person is brought to justice, please," the anonymous tipster told the hotline

Investigators filed an "emergency request" to trace the IP address, a numeric designation that identifies its location on the internet, and traced the anonymous report to Nordfors who was living with a "sponsor family" in Draper, the affidavit states. He allegedly claimed he was using the dark web and "was glancing at stuff" such as sites for drugs, hit men and adult content before "he wandered onto the kid variety, which he further described as child porn."

Nordfors says he started chatting with someone who offered a 2-month-old child to have sex with, according to police. "(He) admitted he spoke to an unidentified man and discussed the trade of a 2-month-old and possibly a 3-year-old, who would be brought to Draper from California."

"Makai said that he said, 'No,' but then thought, 'What if this child is real?'" according to the affidavit.

Police say Nordfors made the anonymous tip "after he realized the man was serious."

Nordfors says he arranged to pick up the infant, but "admitted that he got scared, that he deleted and wiped his computer, wiping all his files and factory resetting the laptop he viewed this material on," the affidavit alleges.

Police obtained a search warrant for his electronic devices, however, and "child sexual abuse material was located as well as communication chats discussing the trafficking of the baby," according to the affidavit.

Investigators also found "a hand-written journal … in (Nordfors') room with the inscriptions, 'Understanding the mind of pedophiles (how pedophiles talk to children online).' The journal was several pages long, seemingly a to-do list on how to communicate with children online for enticement," the arrest report states.

But that wasn't all that police reported finding.

"A file folder was also located with a printed manifesto talking about a love for murdering, and plans on how to act out a murder, who the victims should be, and what to pack in a murder bag," police wrote in the affidavit.

The manifesto allegedly included copy such as, "For the longest time I have loved the idea of murdering. The act of killing has always appealed to me."

Nordfors allegedly writes in the manifesto that he is "not a psychopath or sociopath" and that he wants to sexually abuse young boys and girls. But he also states, "I ... only want to kill people who hurt others, such as pedophiles and rapists and murderers. I know it's hypocritical of me to plan on doing the same things to people and kids … so I will have rules," according to the affidavit.

Nordfors then describes the type of people he would allegedly kill, how he would do it, and he made a list that he titled, "Needed stuff for murder bag," police wrote in the arrest report.

Investigators say "Makai is a substantial danger to the community and to all children."

After Nordfors was taken into custody, Draper police set up an emergency operation to determine if another person was actually driving to Utah from California with an infant.

"For the next 48 hours, detectives worked tirelessly, conducting an operation to identify and capture the child trafficker in hopes these children could be rescued and the trafficker could be held accountable for his actions. The trafficker did not show up during the scheduled time frame and hasn't been identified at this time," Draper police said Thursday. "This investigation is active and detectives, along with the FBI, will continue to work on locating these child victims and holding the trafficking suspect accountable."
