MILLCREEK — A man who told police he was either going to "kill or be killed" when he allegedly ran over a motorcyclist has been criminally charged.

Kenneth Eugene Cordova, 34, of South Jordan, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony; and obstructing justice, a second-degree felony.

On March 27, a man was sitting on his motorcycle by a curb in an apartment complex, 3910 S. Main, and talking on his phone when he heard a vehicle enter the complex behind him.The vehicle rammed the motorcycle, according to charging documents. As the car approached, the motorcycle rider "lifted his leg up and was catapulted several feet into the air and landed on the vehicle," the charges state. Cordova then got out of his car and "started yelling and hitting" the victim before driving away.

The vehicle was later found abandoned in Murray. Using security video and other photographs obtained thorough the investigation, detectives identified Cordova as the driver, the charges state.

When he was arrested, Cordova claimed he had seen the victim in the parking garage with a gun and claimed he made threatening remarks, according to the charges. After Cordova got into his car and saw the man again sitting on his motorcycle, he said, "It was a kill or be killed moment," the charges state.

No weapons were located and the motorcycle rider told police he never had a gun.

The motorcyclist "complained of pain to multiple parts of his body and was transported by ambulance to the hospital," but he did not suffer any major injuries, according to a police booking affidavit.

Police also noted that Cordova "is a multi-state offender … and has a history of violent behavior" with a record in Nevada and Arizona.

"While out on bail and awaiting trial on two separate felony cases, one of which involves a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault against a female victim with whom he had a relationship, (Cordova) intentionally engaged in violent and unlawful behavior. The second case involves an allegation of dealing in harmful materials to a minor, another offense involving a victim," prosecutors stated in charging documents while requesting no Cordova be held in the Salt Lake County Jail without bail pending trial.
