MILLCREEK — Police have arrested a man who they say intentionally ran over a motorcycle rider.

Kenneth Eugene Cordova, 34, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Thursday for investigation of attempted murder.

On March 27, a man was sitting on his motorcycle when he said he "heard a car accelerate straight at him" and said the driver "had a look of hate on his face," according to a police booking affidavit. The motorcyclist was then hit, causing him to smash into the windshield and roll onto the roof before dropping to the ground.

"After getting struck by the vehicle, Kenneth exited the vehicle and began to punch and kick (the man) multiple times," the affidavit states.

The victim told police he had never seen the man before and had no previous interactions with him.

Police say Cordova drove away after assaulting the man at 3910 S. Main. His car was found about an hour later in Murray.

The motorcyclist "complained of pain to multiple parts of his body and was transported by ambulance to the hospital" but he did not suffer any major injuries, the affidavit states. Investigators say the assault was captured on nearby surveillance cameras,

Detectives located Cordova on Thursday and questioned him. He admitted to intentionally hitting the motorcycle rider because he had seen him minutes earlier and believed he had a gun in his hand, according to the affidavit.

"He felt he had to 'kill or be killed' and believed he had a hit on him from the year 2009," the affidavit states.

As of Thursday, police said there was no evidence that the victim had a gun that day.

Police also noted that Cordova "is a multi-state offender … and has a history of violent behavior" with a record in Nevada and Arizona.
