WEST VALLEY CITY — One person died early Saturday after being hit by a car in West Valley City.

Police responded to the accident around 1 a.m. at Research Way and Redwood Road, according to West Valley Police Lt. Jason Vincent.

Police believe the pedestrian might have been laying in the road when the car hit them. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver remained at the scene of the accident and was cooperating with police.

The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
