THE GRIDIRON — The tradition of the Gatorade dunk is said to have started back in the 1980s. After big wins, players sneak up behind their coach and douse them with a cooler full of the icy drink.

Many variations have popped up over the years. A notable example is the french fry bath that coaches often get after winning the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

But while Gatorade and french fries are all fun and games, there is never an excuse to dump a cooler full of mayonnaise on another person's head. Here's what happened after South Carolina bested North Carolina in the Duke's Mayo Bowl:

First off, a cooler full of mayonnaise is clearly more awkward to handle than a cooler of Gatorade. Rather than the contents pleasantly cascading out onto the coach, the blob-filled cooler smashes coach Shane Beamer in the back of the head. Ouch.

Then more than four gallons of mayo gloop down over the man. I can't even imagine how gross it smelled.

Beamer seemed to take it all in stride.

"It is everything I dreamed of," he told ESPN. "The cooler got me in the back of the head, then the mayo, but it was awesome. It's a little heavy for sure. I'm weighted down here in the back I feel like. Mayonnaise has never felt so good, I can promise you."
