1. Police say man arrested in West Valley SWAT incident held woman hostage

A SWAT team and police K-9 dog aided in an arrest Friday night after West Valley police say a man fired a gun at officers, threw items out the window at them and eventually left the home holding a sword.

2. Man arrested after allegedly shooting, killing man at Midvale wedding

Police have arrested a man they say shot and killed another man at a wedding in Midvale on Nov. 6, according to a police booking affidavit.

3. Mexico missionaries were taunted, threatened for over an hour, mother says

Kathryn Crouse got a text from her son, a missionary in the Mexico Torreon Mission, on Friday that said, "Everything is fine, but cancel my card as soon as possible." She said that she knew at that point that something was happening.

4. Nations compromise on coal to strike UN climate agreement

Almost 200 nations accepted a compromise deal Saturday aimed at keeping a key global warming target alive, but it contained a last-minute change that watered down crucial language about coal.

5. Here's when Utah's ski resorts open and what's new this winter

Utah's ski resorts are poised to open soon as excitement builds over an early start to Utah's snow season. National Weather Service stations at Alta and Brighton, for instance, have already received 58.7 and 53 inches of snow, respectively, between the beginning of the new snowpack season, Oct. 1, and Friday.

1. Utah State dominates San Jose State to improve to 8-2 on the season

The Utah State defense led the way and forced the San Jose State rushing attack into oblivion. The Aggies gave up just 12 rushing yards on 22 attempts and 150 yards of total offense.

2. 'Winning ugly': Utes escape Arizona desert with 38-29 win over Wildcats

And while the second half wasn't a shining example of success, either, Utah found a way to escape the desert with a 38-29 win. Utah may not have covered the spread — and was dangerously close to losing — but in November a win counts the same.

3. Electric Palmer leads San Juan to first 2A football title since 2010

Palmer threw for 253 yards and four touchdowns, and ran for 26 more and a score as San Juan flew past Beaver 34-21 in the Class 2A state championship to clinch the Broncos' first title since 2010.

4. Defensive gamble pays off with pick for 3A Grantsville's first state title since 1997

Quarterback Caleb Sullivan rushed for two touchdowns, and Rainer made the game-sealing interception on the goal line with 1:33 remaining to lift the Cowboys to their first state title since 1997 with a 14-10 victory over Morgan at Stewart Stadium.

5. Score might not show it, but Jazz blasted by Heat

A late surge wasn't enough to mask the fact that Utah is officially in a slump. And from the looks of Saturday's 111-105 loss to Miami, it might be a bad one.
