SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A new study says Utah's national parks provide more than 11,000 jobs and infuse the state's economy with nearly $485 million.
The report, National Park Visitor Spending and Payroll Impacts, analyzes spending on park trips across the U.S. in 2007 by more than 275 million non-local visitors. Nationally, the parks provide 188,000 jobs and more than $18 billion in economic activity.
National Park Service Director Mary Bomar says in a statement that national parks have a significant economic impact.
The report was created by the park service social science division and a Michigan State University economist.
