SALT LAKE CITY — Check back here for the latest scores from all the Week 8 high school football games across the state.
Game of the Week: Alta at Lehi
Why did we choose this game?
Coming off a 48-23 win over perennial 5A favorite Orem, No. 17 Alta (4-3, 1-1) in the KSL.com High School Top 20+1 rankings looks to move up the standings in Region 8 with a showdown on the road against Lehi (5-2, 1-0), which sits one spot above the Hawks in the region standings. The Hawks improved with the return of BYU commit Maika Kaufusi after a five-game break.
The Pioneers, however, have done well to hold opposing teams to an average of only 18.0 points this season, but strip out a 52-7 loss to top-ranked Corner Canyon and the average drops to 10.6 points per game. If the Hawks want to get a win and overtake the Pioneers in the standings, it's going to need to find a way to overcome a strong attack led by defensive end Isaac Terrell, who has 77 total tackles and eight sacks this season.
Whoever comes out on top in this game will still be behind a tough Timpview team that just delivered another loss to Orem Thursday night behind four touchdowns from Micah Beckstead. But if Lehi comes out on top, it sets up an important region battle on Oct. 8 in the penultimate game of the regular season before playoffs begin.
