SANDY — Two people are dead following a double shooting in Sandy on Tuesday.
Police say a man and a boy, who are related, each died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds inside the same home just minutes apart.
Officers responded to a home at Club Oaks Drive about 10:20 p.m., said Sandy Police Sgt. Clay Swenson. First responders found the two victims inside the home and attempted lifesaving measures, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
As detectives began collecting information about what happened, they learned that the boy and the man had gotten into an argument. At some point during the argument, the boy produced a handgun and shot himself, Swenson said. The man then called 911. After making the call to emergency dispatchers, the man took the same gun and shot himself, according to Swenson.
The names of the victims were not immediately released. Swenson said there was at least one other person in the house at the time of the shootings. He did not know Wednesday where the boy got the gun or what the two people had been arguing about.
