HERRIMAN — A man accused of killing his dog after allegedly losing his temper now faces a criminal charge.
The 30-year-old Herriman man was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with aggravated cruelty to an animal, a third-degree felony.
On July 28, a man was getting ready to go out for dinner and attempted to put his dog, "Yoda," on the balcony of his apartment. That's when the man called his wife, who was waiting in the parking lot, and told her he had lost his temper and that it was "really bad," according to charging documents.
The wife ran into the apartment and "observed blood everywhere," the charges state. The dog was wrapped in a blanket and taken to a local vet, but was deceased upon arrival, according to the charges.
The man provided a written statement to police. In it, he "admitted to getting frustrated with Yoda when he would not willfully go to the balcony," the charges state.
The man kicked the dog, who then peed on the floor. When the man reached down to grab Yoda, the dog bit him. At that point, the man punched the dog several times, according to the charges.
Details such as the age of the dog — which police described as a puppy — as well as the breed of the animal were not released.
