PARK CITY — Park City Fire District Chief Paul Hewitt died Friday after he was critically injured while on vacation this week, officials said.

Hewitt, 58, died in a hospital in Eugene, Oregon, according to a Facebook post from the fire district. He was injured in a UTV accident while vacationing with his family on Monday. It's unclear exactly where the accident took place.

Hewitt had served as Park City Fire District chief since 2011, according to the district's website. Before that, he worked with the Salt Lake City Fire Department for 20 years.

"He set an example of true leadership and touched so many with his genuine personality and compassion for others. He will be greatly missed by the Park City Fire Department family," the Facebook post said.
