KEMMERER, Wyo. — A Utah woman has died and several people were injured after a two-car collision Wednesday afternoon in Wyoming, Wyoming Highway Patrol said.

West Jordan resident Wendy W. Stapel was westbound on U.S. 30 around 2 p.m. when she attempted to pass a semitruck. Stapel failed to see another vehicle eastbound in the path. Both drivers tried to avoid a crash but collided head-on, police said in a Facebook post.

Stapel, 55, was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries. The other passengers in her vehicle, including Kearns resident Ashlee Johnson and three juveniles, were also taken to the hospital.

The driver of the eastbound car, Richmond resident Trevor Jackson, was transported by helicopter to the University of Utah Hospital. Passengers Seantae Jackson of Richmond, Melissa Zelig of Salt Lake City and two juveniles "were either flown to the University of Utah or transported by ground ambulance to South Lincoln Medical Center," according to police.

The conditions of the injured is unknown.

Police said "driver inattention" could have played a role in the crash.
