MURRAY — A man was shot and killed and a police officer was injured during an exchange of gunfire with police who responded to a domestic violence incident at a Murray apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.

Two officers responded to reports of a dispute at the Villas at Vine Apartments, 811 E. Vine Street, when some kind of confrontation occurred and gunfire was exchanged, said Murray police spokeswoman Kristin Reardon.

A man was killed and a police officer was transported to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, Reardon said. The injuries are believed to been to the officer's leg.

Police did not release the name of the man who was killed or any other information about him, nor did they say what prompted the shooting, how many officers fired shots or any other details about the death.

Emergency responders began responding to the incident about 5:10 p.m. Tuesday.

The Officer-Involved Critical Incident Team has opened an investigation, Reardon said.
