LAYTON — A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after crashing on I-15 in Layton late Sunday night, authorities said.
The crash took place about 10:30 p.m. near the Hill Field Road interchange on I-15, according to Utah Highway Patrol trooper J. Olsen. The area is an active construction zone and is closed down to one lane.
Witnesses reported a motorcyclist locked up his back brakes and crashed in the area. It is not clear why the motorcyclist crashed because it was a "blurry event" for the rider, but a truck may have swerved in front of him, Olsen added.
The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but they were not considered to be life-threatening, Olsen said.
After the motorcyclist crashed, a separate three-car crash took place behind him on the freeway, Olsen said. Two of the drivers from that crash were transported to a hospital with minor injuries, he said. Impairment wasn't suspected for any of the people involved in the crashes.
