OGDEN — A convicted sex offender was arrested early Friday after police say he was spotted on top of a neighbor's roof looking into the room of a young girl.

Reynaldo Paredes, 40, was booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of voyeurism, intoxication and trespassing.

Just after 1 a.m., police were called to the 2600 block of Monroe Boulevard by a man who said he caught his neighbor on his roof.

"The (homeowner) reported seeing Reynaldo standing on top of the roof, looking into a window in the front of the home. The window leads to the (homeowner's) daughter's bedroom," according to a police booking affidavit.

The girl was sleeping in her bed at the time. An officer reported that he climbed onto the roof himself to verify what Paredes would have seen from that angle.

When questioned by police, Paredes — who had fresh cuts on his face and swelling around his left eye — initially denied being on the roof and claimed the homeowner attacked him for no reason, the affidavit states. When officers mentioned to him that they found a handprint on the window, Paredes allegedly said "that he was on the roof to scare a raccoon away."

After giving another excuse and after the officer told Paredes that he did not believe his explanations, "Reynaldo then said that he was in fact looking at the child," police wrote in the affidavit.

Paredes currently faces charges of lewdness, intoxication and bestiality in another case filed in 2nd District Court. His next court hearing in that case is scheduled for July 6.

In 2016, Paredes was convicted of attempted forcible sexual abuse, lewdness and intoxication. He was given a suspended prison sentence and instead ordered to serve four months in the Weber County Jail and was required to register as a sex offender in Utah.
