SALT LAKE CITY — Police have identified a couple found dead in a South Salt Lake home Friday night.

The woman was identified as Lauren Hoover, 34, of Murray. The man was identified as Philip Gorst, 38, of South Salt Lake.

Officers responded to a welfare check at Gorst's home, 2889 S. Eugene Lane, just after 11 p.m. Friday after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots, according to South Salt Lake police.

Officers entered the home and found Gorst and Hoover, who were both dead with gunshot wounds, police said in a statement.

The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide. Police said there is no motive but Gorst is suspected of shooting Hoover before shooting himself.

Police said there were no documented cases of domestic violence between the couple, and investigators did not know how long the couple had been in a relationship.
