GRANTSVILLE — The body of a 28-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound in Tooele County on Tuesday, police said.

According to Tooele County Sheriff Sgt. Nicholas Yale, the man was found about 1:30 p.m. in a popular shooting area near the Cargill Salt Plant, 15100 Rowley Road. His body was discovered by some rock climbers nearby his car, Yale said.

Investigators believe the man was shot by the gun found on his person. Yale said the medical examiner believes the shooting was accidental or suicide.

Family members believe the man was murdered by someone he was with earlier that day. Yale said that police are attempting to follow up with that lead but have not made contact with the person the family suspects.

Further information, including the identity of the man, was not released.

Correction: A previous version said the man's body was found on Wednesday. He was found Tuesday.
