WEST JORDAN — A driver died after police say their car sideswiped several other cars on 9000 South in West Jordan on Thursday.
The crash took place at 1240 W. 9000 South, according to emergency dispatchers. A car was westbound in the center lane when it sideswiped a Salt Lake County truck that was heading east, according to West Jordan police. The car then hit two other eastbound vehicles.
The driver of the car that was in the center lane died, and another person involved was taken to a hospital, police said. West Jordan police later identified the driver as 42-year-old Ryan Vlaardingerbroek.

Police closed 9000 South in both directions between 700 West and 1200 West due to the crash, according to the Utah Department of Transportation. The road was estimated to be cleared by about 11 a.m., according to UDOT. As of 1 p.m., UDOT's website showed the road was cleared.
Emergency officials initially said there were multiple other people injured in the crash, but later clarified that only one person was hospitalized.
