SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A vendor that rents houseboats on Lake Powell said it would retrofit generators on about 50 vessels after finding a design flaw that may have contributed to a carbon monoxide-related death.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported in a story Sunday that Aramark is following Coast Guard recommendations to change exhaust systems for generators on the houseboats.

The Tribune used Freedom of Information Act requests to obtain records in the investigation of the death of an Arizona man who died on a houseboat in June.

Investigators found that the boat's exhaust line was too long and had too many bends, which prevented exhaust from escaping. Instead, the exhaust was expelled through a water drain beneath the cabin.

A lawyer for the company that manufactured the boat said his clients were still investigating and had not concluded there was a malfunction.
