PROVO — A Saratoga Springs woman critically injured in a crash near Provo earlier this week has died from her injuries, the Utah Highway Patrol announced Friday.
Makenna Goodwin, 23, was driving a Toyota Corolla on I-15 near Provo about 8:50 a.m. Wednesday when "the driver drifted into the right shoulder barrier," according to the UHP. Snowy and icy roads were believed to have been a factor, according to troopers.
After hitting the barrier, the car slid back into oncoming traffic and was broadsided by a semitrailer. She passed away from her injuries Friday, the UHP announced.
Many people posted tributes to Goodwin on social media and a GoFundMe page was set up for funeral and medical expenses.
According to the page, Goodwin is survived by her parents and six siblings.
Goodwin served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2017-18. Her death was reported on the Maryland Baltimore Mission Facebook page where several people remembered her by posting pictures and videos of her.
Others posted on a Facebook page created for her called Remembering Makenna Goodwin.
"'ll always remember sweet, goofy, pure, and powerful Sister Goodwin for her persistent pursuit of joy. She loved everyone around fiercely and demonstrated true charity to total strangers. She's the kind of person who would make a fort with you in the middle of the night when you both should have been sleeping, make a crime scene out of a terrifying (and successful extermination) of grasshoppers in the kitchen, and the next day preach The Gospel like the prophets of old," one woman wrote.
"Oh how I loved her smile, her laughter, her kindness. She and her missionary companions came to my house several times for dinner or to help me by performing some act of service. How I wish I had taken pictures to share now. She always exemplified the Savior and being around her brought me joy," another woman posted.
"She was the light of the party! I love Makenna so much! I still have a hard time processing this! She was so young and loving, caring, funny, sweet, beautiful, outgoing. She was the best missionary!" a third woman posted.
