SALT LAKE CITY — Winter weather conditions are affecting northern Utah canyon and mountain routes as a snowstorm is expected to continue through Saturday morning.

Friday's storm is expected to bring up to 10 inches of snow to the mountains of northern Utah, as well as 1-3 inches to the valleys, according to KSL Weather meteorologist Grant Weyman. The storm is expected to clear out Saturday, and warmer temperatures are expected by Sunday, Weyman said.

Utah Highway Patrol reported there had been at least 90 accidents across the state as of 9 p.m. Friday.

Here is the latest info on road conditions.

Cottonwood canyons

As of 2:30 p.m., traction laws were in effect in both Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood canyons in Salt Lake County, meaning that approved traction devices such as snow tires or chains are required on all vehicles heading up state Routes 210 and 190 in those canyons, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

Around 5:30 p.m. UDOT warned of wet road conditions with slush in a tweet.

Alta Ski Area was scheduled to close at 3 p.m. Friday, and state Route 210 was to be closed at 4 p.m. for avalanche mitigation, according to resort officials.

Additionally, all backcountry terrain north of Little Cottonwood Creek in Salt Lake County was closed through 6 p.m. due to avalanche danger, UDOT said. Backcountry terrain north of the creek from Mt. Superior to Cardiff Bowl was also closed through 5 p.m., the agency said.

Sardine Canyon

In Cache County, Sardine Canyon was temporarily closed to southbound traffic at the state Route 23 junction in Wellsville but has since reopened, UDOT said. Traction devices are still required for traffic coming through Sardine Canyon, and drivers are asked to slow down and drive safely, Cache County emergency officials said on Twitter.

I-80, Wyoming

I-80 eastbound is closed east of Evanston, Wyoming, due to winter conditions, UDOT said. It was estimated to reopen somewhere between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
