TOOELE — Tooele firefighters rescued a man who was trapped in his second-story bedroom while his house was on fire Monday afternoon and transferred him to the University of Utah Burn Center.
The Tooele City Fire Department received a call about a possible house fire Monday afternoon, according to Chief Chris Shubert. When firefighters arrived at the home located at 314 E. 670 North in Tooele, they saw smoke. As crew members were getting ready to go inside the house, a woman arrived at the scene and said her husband was stuck in a bedroom on the second story of their home, Shubert said.
A rescue crew was dispatched to the second floor while other firefighters worked on extinguishing the fire.
Firefighters located the husband, who is in his 60s, upstairs in a bedroom and were able to get him out safely and into an ambulance, Shubert said. The man was taken to a nearby hospital and was then transferred to the University of Utah Burn Center. Shubert did not have more details on the man's current condition.
Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, but it appears accidental, Shubert said.
The house did not sustain much fire damage but there was a lot of smoke damage, Shubert said, and the family has been displaced.
