SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation announced that beginning on Friday, Jan. 1 the cost for its annual day-use pass will increase from $75 to $100.
This is the first time in over 25 years the price for the pass has been raised for in-state visitors.
"Utah State Parks is committed to carefully controlling our spending while working to ensure the best quality experience for our visitors," the department said.
"However, operating costs have continued to grow, along with an increase in visitation and use of many state parks … Money generated by these fees will be spent on maintaining visitor's access to the best possible outdoor facilities and experiences."
The annual price of an annual state parks pass for Utah residents will increase from $75 to $100 and the price for Utah residents 65 and older will increase from $35 to $50.
Over the summer, the price for an annual pass for out of state visitors was raised to $150.
An annual day-use Utah State Parks pass can be purchased online through Reserve America, as well as in-person at staffed state parks, region offices, and at the Utah DNR Map and Bookstore in Salt Lake City.
