OGDEN — Drivers in Weber and Davis counties should plan for overnight closures and lane restrictions on I-15 this weekend as crews work on bridge construction projects.

The Utah Department of Transportation announced that portions of I-15 in Ogden and Farmington will be impacted Friday and Saturday nights while crews install bridge beams and pour concrete for new structures.

Ogden I-15 closures

In Weber County, northbound I-15 will close near 4400 South and the Ogden-Hinckley Airport starting at 11 p.m. Friday, March 13.

Traffic will be detoured off the freeway onto Riverdale Road and then routed to northbound I-84.

All lanes are expected to be open by 9 a.m. Saturday.

The area will close again Saturday night, this time affecting the southbound lanes beginning at 10:30 p.m.

"Any time we can do work at night, there's not as many people on the road, and it's still a hassle, and we know that, and people will have to detour, and people will have to kind of expect to slow down. But this is part of our effort to keep Utah moving and make sure people can get to where they want to go in a reasonable manner," said Mitch Shaw, with UDOT.

Southbound drivers will exit at 4400 South (Exit 340), travel along Riverdale Road and then reenter I-15.

One lane in each direction is expected to reopen by 8:30 a.m. Sunday, with all lanes open by 11 a.m.

UDOT officials said the closures are needed so crews can safely install steel support beams for a new bridge at 4400 South.

Lane restrictions in Farmington

Further south in Farmington, I-15 will be reduced to one lane in each direction Friday night between Glovers Lane and Park Lane.

Those lane closures began at 8 p.m. Friday and last until 7 a.m. Saturday.

The restrictions will allow crews to pour concrete for a pedestrian bridge deck as part of the Shepard Lane Improved Project.

The project includes a new interchange, a 10-foot-wide shared-use trail, sidewalks and a pedestrian bridge over the freeway.

Construction on that project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

UDOT is encouraging drivers traveling through the area this weekend to plan ahead, follow posted detours and expect delays.

"It's a short-term pain for a long-term gain kind of situation," said Shaw. "Once we're finished with these projects that we're building, it's going to be really going to be beneficial for people along the Wasatch Front."

Salt Lake Valley

Southbound I-215 will be reduced to one lane on Friday, March 13, at 10 p.m. until Saturday, March 14, at 7 a.m.

The lane closures will occur from I-80 to south of California Avenue.

The southbound I-215 off-ramp to California Avenue will be closed as well.

These closures will allow crews to pour concrete for the new bridge deck at California Avenue.
