LINDON — Officials for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints revealed more details about a new temple that will be constructed in Utah County.
The Lindon Utah Temple, which President Russell M. Nelson announced in October, will be located near 800 East and Center Street. It will be a three-story building and is estimated to be 81,000 square feet, church officials said on Monday. A rendering of the new temple's exterior will be released at a later time.

Temples are where members of the Latter-day Saint faith perform ordinances considered sacred to the religion. The church currently has 17 operating temples in Utah. Of those, the Salt Lake and St. George temples — both of which were originally constructed in the 1800s — are under renovation.
Utah's other 15 temples are open under "Phase 2" guidelines of the church's COVID-19 reopening plan. That means members of the church can perform "all living ordinances" there by appointment. The Lindon Utah Temple is one of eight either planned or currently under construction in Utah.
Three of the future temples, including the Lindon Utah Temple, are slated for Utah County. Church authorities broke ground on the new Saratoga Springs Temple last year and the Orem Utah Temple in September. Much like the Lindon temple, both will be three stories. The Saratoga Springs Temple, to be located at 879 S. Ensign Drive, was listed to be about 87,000 square feet, while the Orem Utah Temple, to be located at 1471 S. Geneva Road, was listed to cover about 70,000 square feet.
Other temples either planned or under construction in Utah are located in Layton, St. George (Red Hills), Syracuse, Taylorsville and Tooele Valley.
Church officials also announced on Monday that the Nuku'alofa Tonga Temple will be its second temple worldwide to move to "Phase 3" beginning on Dec. 28. The third phase allows for "all living and limited proxy ordinances by appointment" and is the last reopening phase before a temple reopens to all normal functions.
The Taipei Taiwan Temple officially moved to Phase 3 on Monday and was the first church temple worldwide to reach third phase. The Apia Samoa Temple and Brisbane Australia Temple are expected to be moved to that phase in the coming weeks.
