SPRINGVILLE — One man was hospitalized in critical condition after a fire broke out in a Springville home late Saturday night.
Crews first responded to the fire about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a release from the Springville Department of Public Safety. Springville Police Lt. Warren Foster said the fire occurred at 115 S. 200 East.
Firefighters found the home "fully involved" in flames when they first arrived and immediately ordered a second alarm.
Springville firefighters were then assisted by others from the Provo, Mapleton and Spanish Fork departments.
There were six people — a mother, father, two children and two other adult males — in the home when the fire began, officials said. "The father was able to get his family out just before the structure became mostly involved in fire," the release says. "One elderly man was carried to the ambulance by emergency personnel."
He was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Officials did not specify the nature of his injuries.
Crews were "finally able to get control" of the blaze about 4 a.m. Sunday. Early indications are the fire began in the home's basement, officials said, but the cause is still under investigation.
