SALT LAKE CITY — Two former local college football players will make their first appearance on an NFL active roster due to COVID-19 concerns.
Former Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley and former BYU running back Ty'Son Williams are among the 10 players called up from the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad Wednesday for the Ravens' midweek game with the undefeated Steelers.
Huntley, an undrafted free agent who signed with the Ravens shortly after April's draft, will be available as a backup to Robert Griffin III, who is starting for Baltimore after Lamar Jackson was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier this week. Trace McSorley will also be available as a backup quarterback.
Huntley, a 6-foot-1 signal-caller from Florida, was a 67.2% passer in four seasons at Utah, when he threw for 7,351 yards and 46 touchdowns with 20 interceptions.
Williams will make his first NFL appearance after signing a similar free-agent contract in the spring. The Sumter, South Carolina, native ran for 264 yards and three touchdowns in his lone season as a graduate transfer at BYU, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury just four games into the 2019 season.
The duo is among the 10 players called up to the mid-week game, which was postponed first to Tuesday and then to Wednesday after a series of positive cases in the Ravens' camp.
