SALT LAKE CITY — A total of 11 swans were found dead or injured in Davis and Salt Lake counties Saturday morning.

Four swans found dead in Davis County and two dead found in Salt Lake County will be sent to a lab to determine the cause of death. Mark Hadley of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said there were no obvious signs as to why the birds died.

Residents reported unusual thunder, lightning and hail early Saturday morning, which could give answers to the swans' death.

"We had some really severe weather here last night, so we won't know for sure until we do the testing," Hadley said. "We're wondering if it might be weather-related."

Five swans were also found injured, one in Davis County and four in Salt Lake County. Hadley said one was sent to the Hogle Zoo, and officials planned to send the others to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah in Ogden for treatment.
