SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's number of COVID-19 cases has increased by 1,196 on Monday — a lower increase compared to what was reported over the weekend, but still a large number of new cases.
No new deaths were reported Monday, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The state now estimates there are 30,823 active cases of COVID-19 in Utah. The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now at 1,647, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that time period is now 19%.
The new numbers indicate a 1% increase in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 1,097,593 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 10.8% have tested positive for the disease. The health department reported an increase of 8,744 tests conducted since Sunday.
There are currently 348 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Utah as of Monday, including 138 in intensive care units, state data shows. That's the highest total in both categories since the pandemic began, according to health department data.
About 72% of all ICU beds in Utah are filled as of Monday, while about 50% of non-ICU beds are filled, according to the health department.
Monday's totals give Utah 117,706 total confirmed cases, with 5,576 total hospitalizations and 614 total deaths from the disease since the pandemic began. A total of 86,269 Utah COVID-19 cases are now estimated to be recovered, according to the health department.
The Multicultural Advisory Committee announced on Oct. 30 that it is working with the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development to ensure multicultural communities have access to masks. Community organizations are encouraged to request masks by Tuesday, Nov. 10, to distribute to families in need.
"Unfortunately, this pandemic has had a magnified impact on members of our multicultural communities. I'm grateful for the work being done by @MulticulturalUT to increase access and equity when it comes to our response efforts," Utah Gov. Gary Herbert said in a tweet on Monday.
There is no COVID-19 news conference scheduled for Monday. Utah officials typically provide updates at news conferences once a week on Wednesdays or Thursdays.
Methodology:
Test results now include data from PCR tests and antigen tests. Positive COVID-19 test results are reported to the health department immediately after they are confirmed, but negative test results may not be reported for 24 to 72 hours.
The total number of cases reported by the Utah Department of Health each day includes all cases of COVID-19 since Utah's outbreak began, including those who are currently infected, those who have recovered from the disease, and those who have died.
Recovered cases are defined as anyone who was diagnosed with COVID-19 three or more weeks ago and has not died.
Deaths reported by the state typically occurred two to seven days prior to when they are reported, according to the health department. Some deaths may be from even further back, especially if the person is from Utah but has died in another state.
The health department reports both confirmed and probable COVID-19 case deaths per the case definition outlined by the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists. The death counts are subject to change as case investigations are completed.
