SPANISH FORK — Officials on Friday identified the man who died when the trench he was working on at a construction site collapsed on him Saturday.
Nathan Carr, 36, was working near 1000 S. High Ridge Drive when the collapse occurred shortly before 4:45 p.m., Spanish Fork Police Lt. Brandon Anderson said.
Carr was partially pulled from the trench by his coworkers before first responders reached the scene.
He was initially conscious and talking; however, Anderson said Carr's condition worsened quickly. He was taken by medical helicopter to Utah Valley Hospital, where he died from "compression injuries."
Anderson added that Spanish Fork police will assist the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in the investigation because the incident happened at a worksite.
Carr was remembered by his family in an obituary as an avid outdoorsman and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who cared very much for his wife of 15 years and their five children.
"Some of the things that define Nate are his love of his family, the Gospel, the outdoors and Dr. Pepper," his family wrote in the obituary. "His family was always his number one priority – nothing came before them."
Carr is to be laid to rest at Spanish Fork City Cemetery Saturday.
A GoFundMe page* was set up to help Carr's family expenses. The page has led to over $50,000 in donations since it was set up earlier this week.
