Game of the Week: Skyridge @ Lone Peak

Led by John Henry Daley, Lone Peak's defense dominates Skyridge in 37-20 win

When discussing Lone Peak’s 37-20 win over Skyridge in the KSL.com Game of the Week, there’s no other place to start except for the Knights’ stellar defense.

Why did we choose Skyridge at Lone Peak?

Region 4 continues to be one of the best regions in the state this year, and here we have two Top 5 teams play each other with potential postseason implications.

The undefeated Falcons, who are ranked No. 2 in the KSL.com Top 20+1 rankings this week, will travel to hostile territory to take on No. 3 Lone Peak in a Friday night tilt for Region 4 supremacy — though Corner Canyon still remains the team to beat in that league, and the state (more on that next week). The Falcons have been dominant this season with an average margin of victory of 33.2 points per game, led by efficient sophomore quarterback McCae Hillstead. On the other side of the line of scrimmage, Skyridge only allows an average of 8.1 points per game.

But the Knights have arguably the best defense in the state. Other than a 10-point loss to Corner Canyon last week — its only loss of the season — the Knights don't allow for much scoring, allowing an average of 5.3 points in six wins. Lone Peak will look to bounce back and avoid a two-week skid behind a talented defensive roster led by BYU target John Henry Daley. The Knights offense can score big points, too, averaging 35 points per game behind quarterback Luke Romney.
