CEDAR CITY — A 71-year-old missing woman who suffered from dementia was found dead on Wednesday in Cedar City and authorities say there were no signs that foul play was involved in her death.
Investigators identified the woman as Carol Stratton — who went missing almost one year ago — based on preliminary information, including her clothing, physical descriptors and the location.
Stratton went missing on Oct. 26, 2019, and was last seen near 3700 W. 4000 North in Cedar City.
Authorities and members of the public conducted multiple large searches over several days for the woman last October.
A worker on a ranch found the body in a sagebrush field being cleared with heavy equipment about 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Iron County Sheriff’s officials said.
Her remains were found about 500 yards south of her family’s farm, which is where authorities said she initially left from when she went missing.
The remains were sent to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s office to confirm the identification. Stratton's cause of death wasn't immediately released.
