SALT LAKE CITY — For the third time in known history, the Salt Lake City International Airport recorded 100-degree weather in September. The last time was on Sept. 1 of last year.
The first recorded day when the airport saw 100 degrees in September was in 1979.
Alpine and Kanab joined Salt Lake City in tying the all-time record high for the month of September. Alta, Cedar City, Kodachrome Basin State Park and Provo all broke their all-time record high for the month.

According to the National Weather Service, if temperatures were to reach 101 degrees it would become the all-time record high for the month for Salt Lake. This continues the warm weather trend as 2020 saw the warmest August ever recorded in Salt Lake City. The average high was 96.5 degrees, with the highest temperature reaching 105 degrees, according to the NWS.
The year 2020 has brought unique weather for Salt Lake City all year as the city had a C grade snowpack winter followed by the third-driest spring on record. Fall is predicted to be warmer-than-average throughout the state with possible below-average precipitation. September normally sees an average temperature of 66.1 degrees. The warmest recorded September came in 1990 with temperatures averaging 72 degrees.
An excessive heat warning has been put into effect for lower Washington County and Zion National Park through 9 p.m. Monday. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 110 degrees. Other areas of Southern Utah, including Green River, Moab, Hanksville, Bullfrog, Big Water, and Kanab were all expected to break 100 degrees Saturday.
