EXPECTATIONS VS. REALITY — We’re more than halfway through 2020 (thank goodness) and I've realized every one of my New Year’s resolutions withered away without being fulfilled.
Eat healthier? Baking is my new favorite hobby. Travel? Passports are virtually useless. Get a tan? More like a sunburn.
This year has been what someone in the Dungeons and Dragons community might call a critical failure, and what everyone else would probably also call a critical failure.
However, this year has also presented unexpected joys alongside its challenges, and this video is a great representation of both. Few things can better visually represent the expectations of 2020 versus the reality than this heartfelt clip of a father attempting to teach his toddler a one-handed cartwheel.
Cutest thing you’ll see today. Maybe ever... pic.twitter.com/PuthRXwVBj

Dad is our plans for the year — neatly laid out on Dec. 31, 2019, with big smiles — likely surrounded by a troupe of friends and convinced that this year would be the best ones yet.
The toddler is how 2020 actually has been: a mighty effort that ends with us laying on the ground. We did our best, coach. It wasn’t what we intended to do, but we’ve gotta laugh about it.
While we’re on the metaphorical ground, why not take a nap? Breathe deep, take a break, laugh a little, and remember that things will get back to regular expectations soon enough. Until then, much like this toddler, your efforts are enough.
