GOSHEN, Utah County — A 12-year-old girl was killed on Monday night in an ATV crash, officials with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene about 7:30 p.m. Monday and found 12-year-old Marley Tarango not breathing. The young girl had suffered serious head injuries and injuries to her right ankle.

Nearby residents were administering CPR to Tarango when authorities arrived. Deputies assisted until paramedics arrived.

Marley was transported via medical helicopter to Utah Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about 11:30 p.m.

The young girl had been on the four-wheeler with two friends, driving along the shoulder of the roadway, when the ATV’s 13-year-old driver suddenly jerked to the side, causing Marley to fall off. She had a helmet with her but was not wearing it when she fell off, authorities said.

The 13-year-old driver, who was not wearing a helmet, and a 10-year-old passenger, who did wear a helmet, were uninjured in the crash.
