LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- The Logan Municipal Council has voted to allow brewery-pub restaurants to set up shop in the city's downtown.
The new ordinance approved on a 4-0 vote Tuesday allows locally brewed alcohol to be sold as long as the business makes 50 percent or more of its profits from food. The restaurants, like Squatters Pub Brewery of Salt Lake City and Wasatch Brew Pub of Park City, will only be allowed in Logan's commercial central district.
Logan Economic Development Director Kirk Jensen said there's growing interest in bringing a brew pub restaurant to town.
One council member, Jay Monson, abstained from the vote, saying he is concerned about alcohol abuse.
The council had expressed worry about possible odors produced by the restaurants, but their concerns were allayed after reports from similar establishments elsewhere that there have been no complaints.
