SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A lawsuit has been filed against the manufacturers of the van that rolled several times last year killing eight Utah State University students.
The families of those who died and the two survivors of the crash filed the lawsuit yesterday in U-S District Court in Salt Lake City.
The lawsuit targets the manufacturer of the van and its tires. It claims tread peeled off a tire causing the van's driver to loose control. U-S-U instructor Evan Parker was driving the van when it veered off Interstate 84 east of Tremonton and rolled several times. Parker also was killed.
The Utah Highway Patrol determined the van was traveling between 95 and 100 miles per hour when it rolled last September.
Investigators say none of the occupants was wearing their seat belt.
But the parents of the two surviving students say their sons were buckled up.
