LOGAN, Utah ­ Former Utah State football player Aaron Smith passed away of an apparent heart attack earlier this week.

Smith played linebacker at Utah State from 1981-83 and led the team in tackles with 131 during his senior season as he earned second-team all-Big West Conference honors. Smith was also named the league¹s Defensive Player of the Week once during his senior season as he helped the Aggies¹ notch a 27-10 win at Pacific. He finished his career with 244 tackles.

Following his collegiate career, Smith was drafted in the sixth round of the 1984 National Football League Draft by the Denver Broncos and played in 10 games for Denver as a rookie.
