(KSL News) World War II veteran Richard Morris recognized for his four years of Navy service and for his 20 years of volunteer work.
In the past two decades, Morris has spent 4,000 hours with the patients and staff of the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center. He says, "For a long time, these men up here that I've been visiting have been in my generation. We share the same experience, and I relate to them, and I'm sure they relate to me."
Morris said he was overwhelmed by the recognition. During the ceremony, he was presented with a Quilt of Valor, which typically goes to injured service members from the War on Terror.
This is the first time a World War II vet has received the honor.
