(KSL News) South Salt Lake Police say a 13-year-old girl was raped by a man she met while waiting for her mom attending substance-abuse counseling.

Police say 31-year-old Vincente Ramirez was arrested Tuesday for having sex with the teenager during the months of June and July of this year.

Officers say the victim's mother became suspicious of Ramirez's interest in her daughter. When she confronted her, the teenager said she and Ramirez were involved in a sexual relationship.

The victim said it began when Ramirez started talking to her while she was waiting for her mother who was attending substance-abuse counseling.

Ramirez was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on two counts of rape of a child and one count of sodomy of a child.

Ramirez has not yet been formally charged.

The Salt Lake District Attorney's Office will be screening the case.
